Job Description

The General Counsel will serve as the chief legal advisor for Trust Wallet, providing comprehensive legal oversight and ensuring the company operates within the legal frameworks of the jurisdictions it operates in. This role requires a seasoned legal professional with deep expertise in blockchain technology, cryptocurrency regulations, and corporate governance. The General Counsel will play a critical role in guiding the company's legal strategy, managing legal risks, and ensuring compliance with global regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Legal Strategy and Leadership:

    • Develop and implement the company's legal strategy in alignment with business objectives.

    • Provide strategic legal advice to the executive team on a wide range of issues including regulatory compliance, intellectual property, contracts, and litigation.

    • Lead and manage the legal department, including internal and external legal resources.

  • Regulatory Compliance:

    • Monitor and interpret regulatory developments related to blockchain and cryptocurrency across multiple jurisdictions.

    • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including securities laws, anti-money laundering (AML), know your customer (KYC) regulations, and data privacy laws.

    • Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies and industry associations.

  • Corporate Governance:

    • Advise the Board of Directors on corporate governance matters.

    • Ensure the company's corporate governance framework meets best practices and regulatory requirements.

    • Oversee the preparation and management of board meetings, minutes, and resolutions.

  • Contract Management:

    • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including partnership agreements, licensing agreements, and vendor contracts.

    • Implement and maintain a robust contract management system.

  • Risk Management:

    • Identify and assess legal risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.

    • Manage litigation and dispute resolution processes.

    • Provide guidance on risk management policies and procedures.

  • Intellectual Property:

    • Protect and manage the company’s intellectual property portfolio, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights.

    • Advise on IP strategy and enforcement.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    • Work closely with other departments (e.g., product, compliance, finance) to provide legal support and ensure alignment with company goals.

    • Educate and train employees on legal and regulatory matters as needed.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admission to the bar in at least one jurisdiction.

  • 10+ years of legal experience, with significant experience in the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry.

  • In-depth knowledge of the ongoing changes of the global regulatory frameworks related to cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, and financial services.

  • Good judgment to balance between business growth and manage risks.

  • Demonstrated strong commercial acumen with the ability to provide practical, business-oriented and sound legal recommendations and solutions.

  • Proven ability to work with the legal budget to identify and prioritize areas with significant impacts on business.

  • Proven experience in corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and risk management.

  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to lead, influence, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

  • High ethical standards and integrity.

Preferred Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of how blockchain and on-chain crypto products work.

  • Experience working in a high-growth tech startup environment.

  • Familiarity with international business operations and multi-jurisdictional legal issues.

  • Strong network within the legal and blockchain communities.
